HWS Part L compliance - BRUKL report

Postby Paduk » Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:55 am

Hi All,
I have got a doubt about how to input HWS for compliance in the Apache system.

Here is an example:

The building is heated/cooled using ASHP so I set the Main System using the UK NCM type split or multisplit system. I input the relevant information such as COP, SEER etc.

The HWS is "instantaneous hot water only" so within the Main System, in the Hot Water tab, I selected instantaneous hot water only and applied the efficiency (1).

When I run the simulation and get the BRUKL report however the Water heating efficiency in not 1 but the same as the ASHP which, of course, is not the case.

So, to try to fix this, I have subsequently create another system other than the Main System, where I have still used the split or multisplit option but I have set the COP and SEER to 1 and than in the Hot Water tab I have selected "Same as space heating". When getting the BRUKL report however I get the message " no HWS in the project or HW delivered by HVAC system" which leaves me a bit baffled.

What am I doing wrong? which would be the correct process to input HWS?

Thanks All.

I think that unless you have a traditional wet system with DHW clarifier then it is necessary/best to set up a different system(s) for for your DHW and apply this for the DHW only in the thermal templates.

You could have defined this as electric heating using 'Other local room heater - unfanned'. But the effect would be the same - and it does seem to be the case then when you do this, and the system is used for DHW only, then it is not explicitly reported in the BRUKL.
