Understanding VE Documentation

Hi all,

Beginner python user here. I've gone through the User Guide, but I still have a lot of questions. At the moment, I'm playing with the list of available methods within the iesve class, but am struggling to even call certain methods properly.

For instance, on page 19, 6.1.1, it goes over ...

[Feedback] Assigning Zone Groups to Multiplex

Hi,

With the creation of the HVAC thermal zones, it's been more of a hassle to assign rooms to the multiplex in the baseline.

Often times, the baseline thermal zones will be different than the proposed, for example there are times where the baseline warrants one HVAC system per floor where as ...

Proper Steps for Daylighting Controls?

Hi,

I'm very confused in regards to accounting for daylighting controls in my simulation
To my understanding there are two ways to run a radiance calculation

First Method: PRM Navigator
- Apply dimming profile for lighting loads to desired spaces
- Set glazing transmittance values in the ...

Re: Radiance not running

Hi

I've noticed that this sometimes still occurs in VE 2016. When running a simulation in the sensors settings tab using the "Apache" radio button, the progress bar hangs on "initializing"

Sometimes when I save, close out, and re-open, it runs. But other times it hangs on initializing.

Complex Potential,

Ahhh... you're absolutely right, we didn't think about that.

Thank you!

Higher external conduction loss with more solar gain?

Hi all,

I did a test comparison study and noticed something interesting between the solar gain and external conduction loss of two models:
- Model 1: No adjacent buildings modeled
- Model 2: adjacent buildings modeled

In the end, the total energy of both buildings are relatively the same ...

Re: Trouble Meeting heating set-point in the morning?

Farahghanem,

Thank you for offering your help! I hope to resolve this issue soon, but if I continue to struggle, what would be the best way to share my project with you? The project is about 160,000 sq.ft. (8 stories) but I'm currently playing around with 3 stories to minimize run times.

My ...

Re: Trouble Meeting heating set-point in the morning?

Hi Farahghanem,

Thanks for the response!

As it turns out, it's having trouble in both heating and cooling. See below for my ApHVAC System:

It looks like the hot and chilled water loops are fine, they are meeting their target supply temperatures, however, I'm ...

Re: How to define two heating setpoints

Hi Jules,

That is an interesting occupancy period, what kind of building is this?

As for the schedule that you've mentioned, you need to use an Absolute profile instead of a modulating profile. See image below (in Fahrenheit)

Trouble Meeting heating set-point in the morning?

Hi all,

I'm simulating an office building with a VAV-reheat system but I seem to be having trouble meeting heating set point (70 deg F) for morning start up.

The office space is broken up into perimeter and interior zones, with only the perimeter zones having heating. The HVAC system is purely ...
