Re: How to draw a dormer

Couple of questions for this:

a) How do I switch off Intersections? (Does that still exist?! Still using 6.4.0.11)
b) Do I have to switch off intersections, and subtract the right size hole before I draw my cube in?
c) If I try to draw a cube over my room, the warning message about intersecting ...

Re: Room in the roof

Premature celebration. I've had to re-draw it from scratch. I can get the rooms in the roof fine, but as soon as I attempt to do anything with them - switch on inner volumes, put dormer windows in, nada. Software doesn't seem to like putting inner volumes on sloping ceilings, so I end up with a mish ...

here's a new one - thatch roofs?!

Hi all,

Still doing domestic buildings in IES (it's research), and I've got to put on a thatched roof.
Typically you don't get thatch roofs for non-domestic buildings, so it's not in the system materials. (Although I know a couple of thatched buildings now used as offices, intriguing.)

Can I ...

Re: Room in the roof

Just to report back, I created a top storey, then sliced the spaces to get the sloping roofs, then sliced it again to get the upright walls, creating triangular empty unconditioned spaces. I also had to alter the roof angle so that it picked the roof up as roof, not wall.

To say I'm chuffed with ...

Thermal mass Cm parameter

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how the Thermal Mass Cm value is calculated? It appears in the project construction (opaque) window, and appears to provide a value of thermal mass for each construction.

Looking at the units:
The "Mass" appears to be 'density x depth of construction'.
The "Cm" appears ...

Re: Number of people

Hi, thanks Phil,

Realised why I was getting the n/a message, as I had combined the rooms, when I only selected one room at a time it worked!Turns out I have suitable occupancy after all!

When I query the room data, the thermal template has been set correctly, so I think the 'assign...' window that ...

Room in the roof

Hi all,

Trying to do a domestic building with attic rooms. Can I generate the roof space then split it into the various rooms under the eaves, or should I be creating a top storey which I then cut the edges off to create the sloping roof? :?:

Really not getting my head around it, it's not even ...

Number of people

Hi all,

Having come up with some very tiny results for DHW demand, I checked the Number of People, and the answer came up as "n/a". I then went through to check if the rooms had a template assigned to them, and they have all reset to the default, and I can't get them to keep the template I assign ...
