Re: Assigning multiple ceiling/floor construction combinations

Hi all, this is actually a very valid query. Has anyone come across a useful/speedy way of doing this? The issue comes when you need to specifically assign floor constructions to a set of rooms, though the only way that I know to do this is to select the ceiling of the room below and change here ...

Re: Lighting design input in the DSM calculation (ApacheSim

Interesting topic all and valid points made. It is clear that this is another Part L2a/EPC 'grey' area and hence there are a number of routes that can be adopted, each perhaps with their issues. Perhaps the view could be taken that if the compliance tools being used are accredited (which they are ...

Re: Macroflo not found when simulating

Hi, I imagine you have found a solution to this issue by now, though if not, try saving the model on the windows directory rather than the mac side. For example, create an IES model folder directly onto your windows C: directory. I also tend to use underscores rather than spaces in my file names and ...

Re: DHW Delivery Efficiency

To add some further clarification on this issue, see page 80 of the latest ISBEM User Guide (v.5.2b April 2014)

"Further Guidance: The secondary circulation pipework length refers to all the pipework i.e. flow and return."

Modelling of Transfer Air to WC's (supply and return to MVHR

Hi all, as per usual, any comments on the following would be much appreciated.

I have a WC that receives transfer air from a neighbouring circulation space. The circulation spaces is served with supply air via a MVHR unit whilst the WC exhaust returns the stale air to the MVHR also (rather than ...

K-itchen Extraction SFP's and ACH's

Hi all. Any thoughts on the following would be much appreciated. ;)

EPC conventions 5.0 states that k*****n extraction rates and associated SFP's should be included within the EPC calculation to account for the increased volume of fresh air entrained into the building which will need to offset ...

Re: DHW Delivery Efficiency

Very useful response CP, thank you. I tend to agree with your sentiments regarding the Notional building performance i.e. just because the Notional is performing to an unrealistically high level of efficiency, it does not mean that the Actual design will be able to get close to this figure. The fact ...

Re: Part L2a 2013 - VRF (Split) Providing Heating Only - NCM

Thanks Ross. That backs up my thinking that in this case it is a subjective decision. I would be interested to hear IES thoughts on this also, but for the time being I have assumed the pessimistic scenario of central heating using air distribution (using an electric ASHP as the heat source ...

Part L2a 2013 - VRF (Split) Providing Heating Only - NCM?

Hello All.

I am currently simulating an office building that derives its heating and cooling by a centralised VRF system. Now, much of the building spaces do require both heating and cooling, therefore the selection of the 'Split or Multi-split' system type is correct (with ventilation defined at ...

Re: Defining fan powers - something seems wrong

Hi all, on a related note, has anyone noticed that room level Supply and Return SFP's are not shown in the latest version of the BRUKL (2014.1.0.0 Part L 2013)? My scenario is that I have a split system with fresh air supply and return defined at room level. I have run the calculation with the AHU ...
