Phantom intersection?

Post by TG359 »

I'm trying to create a simple geometry of two spaces adjacent to each other; however, each time I complete the second space I get the intersection warning. I've checked the coordinates of all the vertices and there should be no problem with these two spaces being adjacent, nor are they intersecting at any point.

Is there any way to get around this? I've tried redrawing both spaces several times (each with the same intersection warning coming up) and rebuilt the model each time.

Welcome to the forum TG

Without seeing the model it's difficult to know what's causing your particular problem but I would say that 99/100 times geometrical issues can be traced back to a user error. A common cause is to do with model snap and grid settings:

For the vast majority of the time you should have grid snap (0.1m normally works fine) and model endpoint snap active and nothing else. If you have any other snaps active it is very possible that a vertex is out of place and it will be tricky to track down.

If you are drawing lines that are not horizontal or vertical then be sure to create a vertex (click) at any points where two walls intersect or you will find there's nothing to snap to later.

Another cause can sometimes be to do with floor heights slightly overlapping so be sure to think in 3 dimensions in terms of clashes especially if you have varying finished floor heights on common levels.

Hope this helps and happy hunting.

Thanks, your advice seems the best way forward with the model I'm working on, and luckily I'm not too far into it so I can start again.

The spaces are traced from an underlying DXF for a rather complex building - but forcing a grid snap will stop any problems further down the line (even if the walls may be a few mm out)!
