Can't insert opening

Post by swilson »

Hi,

I'm trying to add windows to a model i have built but when I try to add the window i get teh following error message:

component error

couldn't find any valid compenents.

check the "category" of the components

I can add an opening if i move down a couple of levels to the surface but this is laborious for a alarger model.

It also seems to be model specific as my other models are working fine.

any ideas what I've done.

Thanks

Take a look in the component module and expand the "Standard Components" list. Is it empty?

There should be a load of pre-made opening type components which are what get used normally by default for placing windows in plan view. If these have somehow been deleted it might explain your problem.

Unfortunatley not,

That was the first thing I checked.

Also checking the category of some of the openings shows that they are under the "openings" (geometry)" category

for further info.
when this hapens I click ok to shut the message and it just reopens, I have to go to task manager to shut down IES.

Sounds like you may have a corrupted model file.

If you are only at the geometry building stage you could try exporting what you've got as a GEM file and then importing into a fresh model.

If you're further on and don't want to lose the thermal inputs it might be best to archive the model and email the .cab file to IES tech support and see if they can repair it.

Good luck.

You were right,

I did as you said and exported the GEM file and then imported it into a new file and now I can add windows.

Luckily I hadn't started any of the thermal/compliance input so I haven't lost anything.

Thanks for your help
