Re: Comfort Index
Hi there,
I noticed this post hasn't really been answered previously.
- The comfort index is very handy and useful but, still, which standard does it refer to?
- Any hint on the calculation method?
- Does it have anything to do with the adaptive method (TM52) recently introduced in the 2013 version?
Many thanks for any help folks.
Best,
F.

Re: Comfort Index
Hello,
Does anyone know how IES divides the comfort index into those 15 categories? What are the criteria used to it?
Does the IES understand that summer in countries in the South latitude (like Brazil) is not from 1st of May to Sept 30th?
It seems to me that the comfort index results are the same when I select the TM52 Adaptive Comfort (beta) and when I do not select it. Does anyone know how to explain it?
Thank you for helping.

Re: Comfort Index
I have uploaded a PDF that contains a table showing the values used when trying to determine the comfort index, you can view it by clicking here

Re: Comfort Index
Hi Terence,
and many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it is still not clear to me where the basis of these values and ranges lays. Is it a European Standard, or CIBSE Guide, or an ASHRAE Standard ? Neither of them? There is so much going on about comfort that is crucial to draw conclusions based on solid ground.
However, would it be possible for us as users to alter the values in the table you uploaded?
Many thanks.
Best wishes,
Francesco.

Re: Comfort Index
The methodology implemented in Vista is our own but has been tested and agrees with ISO 7730 (and so ASHRAE 55)
