Total Energy same for different cities!

Post by ts531 »

Hi, I am trying to see the impact of different building geometry and micro-climate on building energy consumption. I have modelled 4 identical buildings arranged around a court in modelIt and looked into the energy consumption for the same building arrangement for two different cities in two countries. The buildings are naturally ventilated with no mechanical systems and the internal gain (light, people and equipments) is kept the same. Openings are defined in Macroflow with 90% opening area, max open angle 90 Deg and exposure type is high-rise sheltered wall, h/H=.4 (don't understand what h/H means though!). Now, when I look into the total energy in vista, the results are identical.

I wanted to check the weather variables in vista, but there is no weather variable shown in the table! But I have assigned the location in ApLocate and also checked in Apache Weather Database manager. I don't understand what is wrong. Please give me some suggestion.

Moreover, I am not very sure, if Macroflow is actually working for the model. When I select the windows and chech into Macroflow 'Assign Openning Types', my assigned windows are shown red. That means the windows have been assigned correctly. But when I look into Macroflow Internal Ventilation the data is zero. However, in Macro-flow External Ventilation it is showing data as per the window opening and closing time. The air exchange in BTM is assigned with infiltration only, since I didn't define the cracks in Macroflow.

Please help me with these issues.

Waiting to hear from you soon!

No weather variables? That can't be right.
What FWT/EPW have you selected for the simulation?

I'm actually having the same problem with "weather variables" tab in vista as the OP. After the patch the tab is simply empty. I've ran simulations for various locations (and weather files); my earlier models vista files also have the weather variables missing. Since I can see the variable values in VistaPro just fine, Im guessing there's something wrong with the interface.
Any suggestions on fixing this?

I am experiencing the same thing. No weather variables in vista yet they are all there in vista pro. Did you have any luck resolving this?

Hi,

I think the weather variables options disappeared from Vista after upgrading to VE2013 feature pack 2.

You can still plot the data in Vista Pro.

I'm not sure if this was a deliberate move from IES. It would be good to get some clarification.
Vista is a bit useless if you cant plot weather data.
