Hello,
I have previously modelled an ice hockey arena in RETScreen Expert, however as this software unfortunately does not meet the ASHRAE 14 standards I am required to find a new software to use. I am currently using a trial of the IES-VE software, however I am hoping for any insight into the applicability of this software to model an ice hockey arena.
I hope to hear back soon.
Cheers,
Ice Arena Modelling
Re: Ice Arena Modelling
Unfortunately, we don't have any specific guides for modelling ice rinks / ice arenas and providing this guidance ourselves would fall outside of our role. The best I can provide are high-level notes from a co-worker on how you might go about modelling this. Should you have any specific questions related to any of these points or any others, your best resource would be our consultancy department. They can provide project specific guidance and assistance with bespoke/custom modelling and analyses.
Use IESVE’s radiant cooling feature to cool a slab of ice to the desired surface temperature.
Create a small zone at ice surface level
Using IES construction data base manager, create a construction to represent the thermal properties of ice at -22 C.
Create a construction for an insulated rink floor
Add a radiant cooling component to the ice slab zone - > perhaps have a dummy air loop(s) to implement in ApacheHVAC
Create a central chilled water loop to serve the radiant component representing the ice zone.
