Retain LPDs after applying templates

Post by bbrannon4 »

I have a model with LPD's that came via gbXML from Revit. However, when I go through the PRM and apply the 90.1 templates (this is a LEED model), everything,, including lighting, is overwritten. Is there a way to retain the lighting loads in the proposed model and only use the template LPDs in the baseline?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

Once you apply the correct lighting gains to your proposed model, you need to take those lighting gains off template so they don't update. Select your rooms and go to Tabular Room Data. Make sure all rooms are selected/highlighted in the table. On the Internal gains tab, change Gain 1 Input Mode (assuming Gain 1 is your lighting) and change the pull down from "From Template (W/m2)" to "W/m2". This change will affect all selected rooms in tabular edit.

With this change, lighting gains are no longer read from the template. You can change the template as much as you like, but the lighting gains attached to your room won't change.

Megan,

Thanks for the reply, but I think this is slightly different then that situation. My LPD's are brought in with the import, before any new 90.1 templates are applied. When I apply those templates, all my LPD values are over-riden, even if I previously do as you say and change them from "From Template (W/m2)" to "W/m2". Or is there something I'm missing?

Megan,

I think a colleague and I figured out the best work around. I just exported the room tabular data before and after applying the templates, and then copied the LPDs I wanted to the second text file, and reimported it. That seems to have accomplished what I need.

Ben - you're workflow is correct (using the spreadsheet). Maintaining the raw gbXML throughout might actually slow you down afterwards.
Generally my recommendation (as is from others in your company) is to strip all the thermal data out and paste in the relevant pieces (e.g. LPDs) afterwards.
