Error reading shading file in Notional model - line 584
see ApStatus.log for information (which just states the above)
Anyone have any idea what this may be attributed to?
Error reading shading file in Notional building
Re: Error reading shading file in Notional building
OUCH!
Not good news - it means that the geometry suncast used to do the shading doesn't seem to match the geometry when apache is reading the shading file... none of which you see really.
Best guess: there are little overlaps or slivers in the base model. These are then causing problems creating a consistent notional building (no idea in reality what I'm talking about).
Depending on how far down the road you are and how complex the model is you might be better performing some minor surgery on it.
• Make sure you have backup
• Make sure you have room groups set up for basically everything...
... and are assigning data via templates and not on a room by room basis
• Go to modelit (and back up again... I don't want you on here blaming me for losing yourmodel)
• Export a GEM file
• select all your rooms and delete them!
• import the GEM file you exported a minute ago.
• reassign the data (fabric & templates etc)
• run suncast, then compliance again to see if it's worked.
sounds more complex that it is in practice.
Let us know what happens.
Good luck,
Zap

Re: Error reading shading file in Notional building
Thanks Zap, Ive traced it to a small meeting room. Unfortunately I did not build this model. It has been sent to us from the clients consultant. I am working as the consultant for the contractor. The file is riddled with errors, unmatched adjacencies and a wholly optimistic Part L2 SBEM. In private I'd say its been jerry rigged to pass. Thus I am listing a whole catalogue of problems which could cost the contractor as the PV will increase as a result of the consultants unrealistic sbem.
I also guess that it was built using the Construct DXF option. Its a pile of shite, so I am redrawing it properly. I cannot stand unmatched adjacencies or anything that doesnt line up properly. You know where you are with a model youve built yourself.
Ta.

Re: Error reading shading file in Notional building
I often find that while intersections can almost always be unlimited, sometimes there is nothing I can do about unmatched adjacencies and surfaces that are reported as being entirely / partially external when they're not.
Can you? If so, any tips?!

Re: Error reading shading file in Notional building
No real tips John, other than take care whilst building. Check frequently and adjust your dxf on the fly. If I spot a problem, i will redraw until it disappears. Once you start creating your own dxf, it becomes simple. I tend to 'square' the building. I simplify the floor plan without losing any of the integrity of the layout. Then the perimeter I will take to the floor above to make sure all my edges match perfectly, and so on. I make all my staircases line up spot on. Same with lifts. Essentially i trace the outline of the building and then just single line the partitions. Making sure they line up all the way above. Be careful to line mullions up etc.
Architects plans are 99% of the time a pile of pooh. Even with the advent of computer aided drawing the morons cant draw a straight line that snaps to an adjacent or perpendicular. Let alone draw on only one plane. I spend as much time creating my own simplified version, than I do modelling it it ModelIT. Time spend here can save you a whole heap of pain later.
Architects are no longer the people they once were. Now they are just exterior designers. Rare is an old school beast who understands moments and math. They are proper Architects, the others are just exterior designers.
