Comfort Index : Vista Pro

Post by EEViljoen »

Good day,
I am a masters student at the University of Pretoria conducting research into the thermal comfort experience within homes from the informal sector. As part of this inquiry I have been conducting digital simulation modeling using IESve.

Thermal comfort is a hard to define metric and many indices are available for measuring it... Humidex, Heat Index or PMV for example. I see however within VistaPro there exists a function called "Comfort Index" which plots the internal data on a 15 point index "1" being dangerously cold and "13" being dangerously hot. I have attempted to research this index in greater detail to see what meteorological parameters were considered in its construction but have yet to find any information. I was hoping if anyone could please provide me with any additional information regarding the "comfort index" and how the software determines it?

Kind regards,
Ethan Viljoen
