Doors in SBEM

Post by ecoboost »

Just wondering what peoples opinion on adding doors to rooms in SBEM. I have always left them out but a colleague who does some work for me says they should be modelled. Is he correct?

I'd say that external doors should be modelled but I never bother with internal ones.

If you're only doing a Part L or EPC assessment then it's not required to draw internal doors; it says that in one of one of the documents somewhere (NCM Modelling Guide??).

However, if you're doing a dynamic simulation with MacroFlo for thermal comfort / overheating, adding internal doors and giving them an appropriate crack flow coefficient can give a noticeable increase to ventilation rates and air movement through your building.

Thanks. I'm only interested in SBEM, always leave out internal doors, just wasn't sure about external. Assume it is only modelled for the uvalue?

You must include all external doors because the Notional building needs to use the same external door positions. That goes for both glazed doors and solid.

Just curious, but why wouldn't you model external doors? Have you previously discussed this with building control or your accreditation scheme?
