Better treatment of purchased CHW / HW / Steam

Post by enerGwizz »

Utilizing purchased energy sources like chilled water, hot water, and steam always requires a bit of a workaround in VE. It will cause further issues due to an approved addendum to 90.1-2022 whereby purchased energy sources will not be subject to the same BPF adjustments as other regulated sources.

The suggestion includes the following parts:
  • Include these as default “sources” in “Energy Sources and Meters”
  • Allow these (or any) sources to be specified directly in the waterside loops - either as a component on the loop itself (e.g. metering consumption without having to add a chiller or other equipment), or as an option within a Virtual DES chiller/boiler. Currently, only electricity meters are available for chillers.
  • Allow utility rates for these new sources to be specified in the utility tariffs dialogue.
