Hi, i am looking to do a Apachesim, using a weather file, but would like to remove all of the wind. Does anyone know if there is an option to run the simulation ignoring all of the wind? Or is there a way to remove the wind from the weather file. I am currently using a .fwt weather file and running IES 6.4.
Thanks!
Removing Wind from analysis
Re: Removing Wind from analysis
Turning MacroFlo off will remove the effects of wind from the calculation.
If you still need to model buoyancy then leave MacroFlo switched on but make sure all of your windows and doors are set to be permanently closed with a crack flow coefficient of zero.
If you are trying to remove wind from a calc that still relies on natural ventilation.....you'll need to manually edit the weather file to set the wind speed to be zero. I'm not sure how you do that, but it's probably possible using Excel.

Re: Removing Wind from analysis
Thanks for your reply John. Yeah we need to remove the wind, however, it still relies on natural ventilation. We are trying to model the worst case scenario of a foot bridge, ie. 40 degrees celcius with no wind. So i guess that i will need to try and edit the weather file as you suggested.
So next question,
Does anyone know how to edit a weather file (.fwt)?
Thanks.

Hi Luke,
The IES Tech Support team have a spreadsheet that can be used to generate weather files in .fwt format.
We can generate weather files for customers if they provide the required data but we could also send you the spreadsheet and you can do what you like with it (we don't strictly Support this so if anything goes wrong we won't accept responsibility) but it would probably let you do what you are trying to achieve.
Other than through openings/MacroFlo I'm not sure what other affects the wind has on the model simulation results, is there no way you can just close off all the openings to make them air tight and get the measure the same effects? Sounds like it would be easier and I'm not sure how Apache will react to such unexpected weather data.

Hi !
If you want remove the wind, select "internal" like exposure type. Cp of this exposure type is egal to zero. This mean that doesn't take the wind to the calcul.
