Ground Contact Edge Insulation

Post by Nick »

Does anyone know if this can be defined in IES? When following the 90.1 PRM Navigator there is a selection for finding "above ground" then the "ground contact" for surface assignment.

Very small parameter I know, but it exists in a lot of our construction documents and would like to make sure it's being properly accounted for if possible.

Thanks so much! :D

Nick,

Edge insulation is accounted for using the "Ground-contact U-value adjustment" in the Functional Settings of your floor construction. When you open up the adjustment dialog within the construction, you'll find there are 2 approaches for making the adjustment, the ASHRAE F-factor and the European norm, EN-ISO 13370. Which you use depends on where your project is located/what the purpose of the energy model is.

Thanks,
Megan
