Chilled Water Loop Pumps and Cooling Tower

Post by dnelson »

I'm modeling a baseline building per ASHRAE 90.1-2010. ASHRAE calls for one primary chilled water pump and one condenser water pump for each chiller. The chilled water loop seems to only allow one pump for any number of chillers.

I would also like to model more than one cooling tower as well. Again, there doesn't seem to be a way to do this.

Is there a way to add multiple pumps and cooling towers to the loop? Thanks!

There is currently no way to model this directly in the VE, but the functionality will be included in a future release (almost certainly this calendar year). As a work around in the current version of the software, users can post-process the results in Excel.

When running a simulation, check the Output Options and ensure that HVAC component results are enabled. Then, in VistaPro, you can get hourly performance data for the cooling tower and condenser water pump. Using this data, along with the hourly data for the load on each chiller, the user can approximate tower & pump performance.
