Exporting existing geometry from one project to another

Post by Richard_MottMac »

I have been struggling with a MacroFlo project for a while now.

I initially began modelling it simply with the room, it's inlets and outlets etc and it worked fine.

I then added a 'room within a room' to act as the internal gains (and nothing else, no flows etc) but apparently this messed up the whole project as the MacroFlo no longer runs due to inbalanced flow. Even though the new 'room within a room' has no flows or air changes etc, somehow this makes the flow unbalanced.

Therefore I am wondering if I can import the geometry from this file (as it took me ages to model it correctly as its a comlpex internal shape) into another 'blank' project. And basically start again with the flows just to see if this is the cause of the problem.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Exporting existing geometry from one project to another

I originally modelled a room successfully for a MacroFlo project I am doing. It had a cross-flo and no real problems.

I took this original model and created a 'room-within-a-room' for the internal gains (which are in reality 18 columns and 4 rows of tv monitors). Somehow between the original model and creating this new room-within-a-room, the flow became unbalanced, even though this new room is completely sealed at this point and has no air chances or flows etc.

Therefore I want to see if I can export purely the geometry of this new room into the model of my old file, a bait-and-switch, just to see if it it works.

Is there any way I can export the existing geometry from one project into another, be it new or existing.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

You can import/export VE geometry between models using GEM files. In VE 2014 FP2, you'll go to File -> Export/Import -> VE Geometry (GEM) to first export your geometry and then import it into a fresh project. In older versions of the software, you'll need to go to the ModelIT menu instead of the File menu to create a GEM file.

i am not sure if the room within a room would have been the correct way of modelling what you were trying to achieve. I would have added components to the room. I am guessing that room within a room is confusing IES somewhat.

you could export the model as the previous post suggests, just remember that when you import it it will see it as an adjacent building, you will need to select it and change it back to what you want.
