Modelling a semi transparant shading 'mesh'

Post by tom_bray »

Hi all,

I am trying to model a mesh that sits on the façade of a building. I would like to draw a plane and apply a transparency factor to it to simulate the mesh but I don't think I can do that in IES.

Does anyone have any experience of modelling a shading device like this?

I had considered building a thin 'room' and adding windows to each face before changing the Object Type to 'local shade'

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom

The Apache engine will not allow solar gains to pass from an internal zone to an external zone and then into an internal zone again. They will be "trapped" in the first internal zone. However, it will allow solar gains to transfer from one internal zone to another.

Therefore, your idea could work but you would need to set up an "internal" dummy zone to act as a solar conduit with the outer face being the mesh. This zone would probably need to be modelled as fully glazed on the non mesh sides with the "glass" constructions set to be fully transparent with a 100% macroflo opening applied to allow air to move as if the glass were not there.

Hi everyone
i do that, but the problem is the zone between mesh and window will be heated by solar gain and can not work like dummy zone.
I start to draw a box and i open the all 5 sides by windows 100% opening, then i applied the manufacture properties of mesh over the top of box, which represent the mesh.
the final run will give me a outputs higher in air temperature than weather, that is mean the room heating by solar gain although the box opened in 5 sides.
can any one help.
thanks
