MacroFlo Profile for windows

Post by bootsam »

gt(tdr,20,5) & gt(to,18,3) & lt(ws,4,2)

I have set my windows to open when Internal Dry resultant >20°C AND Ambient is > 18°C and wind speed is < 4m/s. Would you experts out there agree with this profile? If not what are its shortcomings and how can I improve upon it. I'm eager to learn how to use this technique more effectively. Many thanks for all suggestions. :ugeek:

zzzzz

This forum and the support from moderators is non existent.

The point of me starting this thread was to enter dialogue with IES people as to how best to modulate window openings in macroflo. In response to Guide A (2006) Table 1.8 and TM:52. So as to fill in the gaps in the IES documentation, which concentrates on how to use the software, not how to model variables with examples and discussion.

Can IES please also consider placing limits as part of the profiles algorithms to help limit things like the macroflo ach rate etc.

If a mod mentions training I will personally stalk them and mess up their garden.

Hi,

This forum is provided for all IES users to discuss modelling problems and any other work they are undertaking using VE. It's not the role of the forum moderators (the same guys running IES Technical Support) to come on here and offer advice with projects.

I would love to see this forum grow as a place for experts in the industry to come and share knowledge but sadly it is often the case that each post just wants us to provide an answer to something and when that is provided we don't hear from them again. We have a few such as yourself who are beginning to get involved in the discussions and lend advice based on your own expertise but in the end we can't force people and if noone is inclined to comment on your profile then that is unfortunate but don't attack the ones who do use this forum and try to make it into something better as the reaction may not be what you want.

Phil

PS we'll only offer training where we feel it would be beneficial in order for someone to get the skills they need to get the absolute maximum benefit from the VE applictaions

If that is the case Phil, then IES are missing an opportunity to grow their software base. The personnel at IES are best placed to offer advice, tips and techniques as they are involved at every level. To exclude such, when even your competitors offer it, is short sighted. Furthermore your answer pretty much makes your forum redundant. Your effectively saying to your paying clients who fork out a fair amount of cash for licenses that weve got your money but now youre on your own.

By providing an advice shop, you further cement your clients to your product. As they now develop an intellectual stake in it. Problems get ironed out and new techniques developed, debugged and stream lined. I honestly find your response remarkable. For your wish to come true that this place become a place to share, then IES must lead it. You cannot out source the responsibility on to other parties. It is your product. You may as well sell boilers without O&M manuals.

Please note all of the above is said in a well natured tone. Neither was my previous post 'an attack'. It wasnt an attack, however I take no offence as that is not my style. I only want things to get better and I share your wish. But IES must lead it. You have experts on the software at hand. Lots of them. Clever people. Help make your software better understood and it will be better used and more widespread. It aint rocket science.

Anyways, I guess this is the end for me and this forum. Goodbye and all the best.

Hi,

I think you have been good to have in this community and I'm sure you've gained a thing or two along the way as well, you would always be welcome to post back here if you wish.

I believe you also have a maintenance contract with us for your IES VE licences so you also have full access to the technical Support service should you ever require it http://www.iesve.com/support/contact. We fully support our products including user guides, knowledge base, training services, online and telephone helpdesk support in addition to this forum.

The VE is a very powerful and flexible application used globally for a range of analyses by some of the best in the business. With the right understanding and approach to modelling problems it is used in a variety of ways for projects, far more than I have experienced for example. We aren't outsourcing product support on here, simply acknowledging the talent of the IES customers and giving a place to congregate, share ideas and work towards the goals of a more productive industry (if the desire is out there to get involved of course).

the function seems logical to me if a little chilly on the dry resultant temperature but that depends on the activity within the room.

if your dry resultant temp is <17.5dC, external temp is <16.5dC and wind speed >5m/s your function will return 0x0x0=0 i.e windows shut

if your dry resultant temp is >22.5dC, external temp is >19.5dC and wind speed <3m/s your function will return 1x1x1=1 i.e windows fully open.

then vary in between.

I'd perhaps increase the dry resultant to match CIBSE summer comfort range e.g. gt(tdr,23,2) for an office
I'd also let it get a bit more windy something like a moderate breeze on the Beaufort wind scale. i.e lt(ws,7,2)

what do you think (if you're still there?) is it the logic of the function you're checking or the values of the variables?
