Parallel Notional and Actual Building Simulation

Post by howardbut1 »

Hi Admin

Just wonder if IES can apply a simply tweak in Apache to allow simultaneously running the Actual and Notional building to speed up the process?

Hi Howard,

We are working on such a thing, but I can't give you a timescale i'm afraid.
Better you know than don't I suppose? :|

Now that parallel simulation has landed is it working for anybody? We have installed 2017 on three machines and not had any success due to an unknown error.

Is this an IES issue or could it be down to something on our network. It would be interesting to hear other people experience.

Thanks,

Interestingly some of my colleagues in other offices have reported getting an error when trying to run compliance models. We assumed it was a licence issue with our network but perhaps not....

Hi there, I'm using Parallel Sims for a number of models. It works perfectly fine on one machine. On the other machine (identical machine) SunCast fails when I run more than two simulations in parallel!! Any idea on what could be the reason? Thanks in advance :)

Hi guys

I think there is a know issue with parallel simulation of the Notional and Actual building (mine was for larger models, it failed when downloading the results files due to a time out error). I ended up turning on the legacy simulation mode to fix this. It removes the ability to do parallel simulations and makes VE DSM work like it did pre 2017, takes longer but works.

You can also manually download the results file in the 'Tasks' viewer by right clicking it (didn't work for me). Or if that fails, transfer the files in Windows Explorer from the C \Program Data \ IES \ tasks to your VE Vista results folder.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Hi,

thanks for bumping this thread back up, we're working on the next update of VE 2017.1.0.0 and it will contains a few general improvements in Parallel Simulation Manager that I think will help you here. This includes running the Tasks from a local user folder rather than the generic Program Data which means they will be under the control of your own user account so should have less permissions related bother and also better support for running the large results files and analyses so that pesky failed to download will not occur again

I'd expect this will be available for download in the next few weeks so please do grab that version when you can, switch your Parallel Sims back on and then try it again. let us know if any problems persist by contacting our Support Team with details. Parallel Sims is something we want t work for all users on all machines so it's good to keep collecting your experiences and cases where it does not, Legacy is fine as a backup where you hit a block but realistically we want everyone to have the benefits of parallel sims (especially on the UK Compliance and PRM benchmark buildings simulations!)
