Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone would have a snapshot of the SBEM system types with the description beside which will indicate if its "heating only" or if its "heating and cooling".
I remember seeing it somewhere before but cannot seem to find it anywhere on the web. The reason is I'm trying to narrow down which system I should use as I am only looking for a cooling only system.
My query is as follows;
I've go a comms room with a split system that is only providing cooling. The obvious choice would be either "split or multi split system" or "single room cooling system". I'm leaning more towards the "single room cooling system".
the only problem is that when I select "single room cooling system" I still have the option to input details on the heating side and was wondering if its still taking into account the fact that there's heating (but no heating in the comms room in reality)
Any info is much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

Re: SBEM System Type Desciption
The guidance documents are frustratingly vague here.
Firstly, there is no cooling only option within the selectable NCM system types (I know, dumb right?) which means you are going to have to model it as a heating and cooling system (split/multisplit sounds sensible in your case).
The only question mark is what you set the efficiencies to on the heating side since, in reality, they doesn't exist. In the absence of any other guidance, I would generally set the heating SCoP to match that of the notional building so that the phantom heating is providing neither direct benefit or hindrance to your result. This feels like a fair way to proceed.

Thanks for the reply.
I've just set the heating to the efficiency of the boiler efficiency even though there's no heating there.
I've no other options really and at least it seems the most fair way.
This way anyway ive got grounds to stand on as I have no other option.
Thanks again

Re: SBEM System Type Desciption
Hi, this one is in iSBEM User Guide v5.2.d Table 7.I'm wondering if anyone would have a snapshot of the SBEM system types with the description beside which will indicate if its "heating only" or if its "heating and cooling".
Would be nice if these descriptions also appeared in the IES software if anyone is watching. I often see models with the wrong system selected. For example 'Fan coil systems' being chosen for a refrigerant system when in the description it is clear this system is for chilled water FCUs.
I hope this helps.

Yes, I am going to create something that contains the descriptions found on page 113 in the iSBEM User Guide.
http://www.ncm.bre.co.uk/filelibrary/iS ... 8Feb12.pdf
Some of us on the support team have put this forward to technical authors (user guide gurus) a few times and the argument was always that they are available in the iSBEM User Guide, which we want users to read, reference & understand anyway, so why re-produce it?
Unless there are some ownership issues i'm not aware off...

Re: SBEM System Type Desciption
Hi Terence,
For me the best place would be if there was direct access to the descriptions in the UK NCM Wizard.
So when you choose a system it shows the description underneath.
Not everyone regularly reads the user guides!
It seems trivial, but I often pick up models where I think the wrong system is used. Then so much time gets wasted arguing about it!
While I'm at it, perhaps you could also add the descriptions of the zone activities from the NCM database. Perhaps somewhere in the templates manager? I genuinely spent about an hour in a full meeting room the other week discussing the activity type that should be assigned to a changing room!
Thanks
Ross
