Heat Rejection gone weird

Works in conjunction with ApacheSim to provide effective modelling of conventional/advanced HVAC systems, operation and control.

Heat Rejection gone weird

Post by farahghanem »

Hello IES community!

I am new to the software and have been directed here by my contacts in IES to look and ask for help in some menacing issues. There are two topics I would like to reach for help in

Firstly, I have modeled a simple villa and included a PTAC system through ApacheHVAC to serve the conditioned zones, everything went out smooth and nice, except for one issue with heat rejection. As far as I know heat rejection is when you have a specific system to which you would reject heat to (for example cooling tower), nevertheless, I still get a value for heat rejection in both baseline and proposed, I am at lost why this consumption is showing up.

Just to clarify:
1. Yes I linked ApacheHVAC system when running the simulation
2. I set the Heat Rejection percentage to zero in all the Apache systems
3. I changed the heating coil type to electric.

Secondly, I was repeatedly told (by IES trainers and tech support) that linking ApacheHVAC in the simulation overrides all the settings in Apachesystems, so as a small experiment, I went into the tabular room data, and selected "None" under System for all the rooms, as Apachesystems were specified there, naturally this resulted in catastrophic results. So if someone can please clarify, what is the use of Apache systems, how/when should I use them, and how/when would they affect my ApacheHVAC systems.

Thanks!
