Defining Title 24 glazed constructions

Post by wgorrissen »

section 1.3.3 of the title 24 user guide (VE2015 FP1) indicates that one needs to "Describe fenestration performance properties via the simplified approach (e.g., U-value, Solar Heat Gain Coefficien(SHGC)[sic], Visible Transmittance)" but I can not for the life of me find where in the user guide it says how to do this. Any direct guidance on how to do this or a link to relevant guidance would be greatly appreciated.

This was an unfortunate omission from the original User Guide, to be corrected at next update.
Will has been sent the missing section, but for others' benefit I've reproduced the text below.

The exact materials used to define Layers are not passed to the Title24 simulation. Only the number of panes is relevant. You therefore have some freedom in how to meet the required SHGC / U values, which must be derived under the ASHRAE ‘Performance’ method, and appear on UI thus:

SHGC ------------------------- 'g-value (EN-410)'
SHGC (Centre of glass) ------appears at bottom of Derived Parameters... dialog
U-value ----------------------- 'Net U-value (including frame)'
U-value (Centre of Glass) ---'U-value (glass only)'

Note: when the Certification method (Regulations tab) is set to ‘Default Performance’ only the Centre-of-glass parameters are used in the simulation.

In addition, only the following inputs are relevant:
--Visible light normal transmittance
--Frame tab > Frame type
--Shading Device tab > Local & External shade (both or neither) – this is in User Guide
--Regulations tab > all items (similar to CBECC-Com’s Fenestration).
