Assigning multiple ceiling/floor construction combinations

Post by chaffinch »

I have about twenty different ceiling and floor combinations to assign. I have a similar case with partitions but that is straightforward as the types can be set simply from each side. For floors/ceilings however it seems to be only possible to set the ceiling type (rather than floor) for a number of rooms at once. As far I can see then to get the floor type needed I would then need to go through each room (hundreds in my case) individually. My questions:

- Is it possible in anyway to set the floor type for a number of rooms at once?
- Alternatively, is it possible to select rooms based on the floor type of rooms immediately above (and then set the corresponding ceiling/floor combination?
- Or is there another easy way of doing this?

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Hi,

You could try creating room groups for your different ceiling / floor types.

Then you should be able to quickly select rooms and assign the constructions you want.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks Ross, I have everything sorted into groups which does speed things up on the ceiling side as I can assign them all at once. I can't find a way to assign the floors all at once though.

Hi all, this is actually a very valid query. Has anyone come across a useful/speedy way of doing this? The issue comes when you need to specifically assign floor constructions to a set of rooms, though the only way that I know to do this is to select the ceiling of the room below and change here. This of course becomes problematic when you have rooms that do not line up with one another (i.e. the shape of a room below does not equal that exactly of the space above and hence numerous spaces below may need to be selected and portions of their ceiling changed etc). Of course rooms with a particular floor covering can be 'room grouped' but this doesn't help (because you need to select the rooms below and change their ceilings). As far as I can tell the only way to do this is to interrogate each room down to the floor level and assign the internal ceiling/floor construction there. This is a slow process for a large number of rooms, and to make matters worse doesn't seem to work in several situations (i.e. selecting one construction to be replaced with another won't actually result in a change!).

Any help much appreciated....
