Plug-in adds extra lines to model

Post by jerry »

The problem I am having is with a building I have drawn in Sketchup which I am now importing into IES via the plug-in.

The building has 4 floors.

When the model arrives in the VE, it is broadly OK, but contains a number of additional diagonal lines which are not present in the SU model. These cannot be removed.

Hi Jerry,

Glad you got your account activated to start posting on here - I've got your SketchUp project so will take a look and hopefully be able to explain the extra lines you are seeing.

Hi, I have the same issue as well each time when exporting a floor with multiple sub-rooms (especially when they are in the centre zone of a larger space e.g. liftcore) into IES ModelIT.

Why are there diagonal lines appearing? These I assumed are intersecting lines
Is there a solution to prevent these lines from appearing?

Please advise

Hi,

What you have described sounds like a room in a room or donut scenario, we don't allow this and the extra diagonal line after import to VE is a symptom. You should look to split up the surrounding room into two rooms so you don't have one volume inside another in this way, when you partition the surrounding room you can make the surface a "hole" so it doesn't impede airflow or heat in any way.
