Plug-in - Wish List

This is the Public Beta of our new link to Google SketchUp, we are very proud of our achievements so far, but we are not going to rest on our laurels. We are extremely interested in what new features or enhancements you would like to see in the Plug-in going forward.

We're going to run this forum topic for a month or so and then compile all the features and create a poll where you'll get the chance to vote for your favorite feature.

Ask for anything you like (within reason - some enhancements maybe impossible!)

Hey Gabriel,

Yeah, it would be nice to have this on the Mac but we can't see it happening at the moment. It would involve creating a Mac version of the full VE and we simply can't devote the development time at the moment as we are looking into other areas.

I've heard reports of the VE working on a Mac under a Windows emulator but I really can't support this at all I'm afraid - Windows only!

I think we'll look into the Mac platform in the future but I can't put any sort of a time scale on this.

David.

Following up another thread on this forum, it would be good to add a way of defining rooms (or better still surfaces/parts of surfaces) as being below ground level so that this is taken into account in the VE-Ware and Toolkit simulations.

Currently the position of rooms in relation to the Ground Plane has no influence on results.

Mac version

Post by ZapBran »

I'd doubt the lads have went out their way not to create a mac version and would be surprised to learn that they aren't looking into it... have you tried to get it running under VMFusion or the like?

you might just find this interesting - IES recently conducted a study into running on a Mac with VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop or the Boot Camp utility.

I'm sure the long-term goal will be to have a version of <VE> that fully runs in Mac OS but in the meantime I'm sure you'll all find this pretty exciting.

SBEM straight from SketchUP

Post by ZapBran »

How about launching SBEM straight from SketchUp?
So you don't 'see' IES at all - you just get the black window thing up and then the results?

Floor plans showing usage

A floor by floor 2D image showing room activity.
In fact - I don't think this can be done in the full IES either.
Maybe do it in apache first then give us it in SketchUp.

All very well if your particular combination of OS/Parallels/Windows works smoothly - mine didn't. VE6 now requires XP SP3 or later to operate, and my Mac laptop running Parallels and XP crashes when I try to install SP3. Rather than spend out on Parallels 5, Snow Leopard and Windows 7 (which might or might not all work together) in order to run VE, I spent out £250 on a new Dell PC to run SU and VE, which is networked to my Mac. Same end result, less money and hassle than running a virtual machine.

Hey Jerry,

That's a fair point... One I, mostly, agree with as I, like most of us, have a desktop and a laptop and I use them for specific tasks... would love a mac but can neither afford nor justify one.
But paying for an additional operating system on a mac is hardly IES' fault is it? I'm assuming after seeing the posts on here, that people have been asking for it so they've had to do it.
I saw some guy stating that it's not a true mac version... get it done!!!
I guess he's never had to pay the wages of 8 programmers(or however many computer geeks they have developing this guff) for 2 years! LOL!
Oh god... this vino is working it's magic... in fact stuff it.. come on IES - give us a Linux version... by June... and make it freeware... and opensource...
Long live getting software for free and making a living out of using it.
Where's my share?
I'm owed!!!
