Apache calc - heating loads

Post by NFox »

I’m having a slight issue with the Apache calc and results shown in Vista. On the heating loads side I seem to be having some problems. I understand that CIBSE procedures do not take into account the profiles created in the building management template so I have turned the heating and cooling profiles to ‘on continuously’ for the purpose of this simulation.

I assume that due to the fact that CIBSE procedure takes a snapshot in time and that you can only calculate heating load for one day per year. However, when I tried this for a number of different simulations (different days of the year selected on the 'CIBSE loads' window) the graphical results suggest constant boiler load readings throughout the 24 hour period displayed on the vista. The system is set to keep the temp within the range of 12-16 degrees Celsius and so in july there ought to be no heating whatsoever and yet the graph indicates that there should be 260kW of heating necessary (the same value as the january simulation) which is incorrect. After reading the relevant section in the Apache calc user guide and methodology guide, I am no clearer.

Please could somebody outline some of the potential areas that might lead to this error. Incidentally the Cooling loads (modelled one day per month for the yearly period I set) seem to work perfectly.

Thanks very much in anticipation

I might be reading this wrong (it's happened before) but I'm not sure what the issue is...
Your sizing your boiler right?
This should be done at the peak, yeah?

If you are wanting to see the variable load on the boiler over time you should be using Dynamic Simulation rather than steady-state sizing?

If I'm not getting something let me know...
