No change when simulating differnt surfaces

Post by ew0187 »

I am simulating a naturally ventilated building. i need to compare between different materials for the slopped roof, one being a an opaque glazing and the other is an insulated metal decking. when i simulate and compare the two results i see significant change in solar gain, a given. but, the the internal temperature for the room is affected very little. Given the changes i made there should a more substantial change considering the climate (middle east). Please let me know if there is a way to work around the problem. I have gone over all materials and they are assigned to the correct surfaces.

the first thing that comes to mind is to make sure you aren't conditioning the room - check the thermal templates and room data assigned ot your room to make sure. You can also confirm in the results there is no conditioning loads.

The only other reason I can think is if you have gains in the space that are much greater than the effects on solar gains/conduction gains provided by the different materials.

Can't think of any other obvious reasons at the moment but I'm sure if you spend some time looking at different room variables in Vista and compare the results files you'll soon work out why you aren't getting the expected result.
