Error creating Roof

Post by brg »

Hi
I have already modelled a domestic buildingand when I try to put the roof on, i get an error saying 'Space intersects with existing space'

There must be an error somewhere in the model but how do i go about finding it?

Thanking you for your help

Hi,

First of all (most obvious to try) if you are using the add roof tool in ModelIT then ensure if you have defined an overhang on the settings that it will not overlap with walls on any adjacent buildings that are taller than the part you are trying to add the roof to.

Next, switch off the intersection check (in the keyin box type int=off), then add your roof - this time the warning is not displayed and the roof will be generated. Next you have to work out where it intersects and modify it so it doesn't. There is no easy way to do this but I would suggest you reduce your grid separation distance and zoom in on any areas that might intersect (if you generate a ModelIT Check Report it should highlight which rooms the roof intersects) until you fine the overlapping parts then you can move/cut these so the roof no longer intersects.

Good luck, if this doesn't work or you can't find the intersection then you could also try looking at the edit vertices tool (select the roof, go down one level of decomposition and then change the dropdown to edit) as this can help highlight vertices that overlap existing geometry.
