Light Shelves

Post by reema_nagpal01 »

Hello IES...

I have to try testing the performance of light shelves as a part of my research.
For doing that I have made a shading device with a very high reflectance. But somehow I am not getting proper results after simulation. The plan images that I have generated with light shelves are less lit up than with light shelves. I have tried it with various days and times of the year. But somehow the the reflectance thing doesnot seem to work.

Is there anyting that I m missing or is there any other way to check the performance of light shlves?

Thanks and regards

Kind of a vague question - "Is there anything that I'm missing?"
Vague answer - "more than likely"

We can't tell how you have set your model up really can we?

Since you are using Radiance I'll assume that you have set these light shelves up as components.
The first things I'd check are:
1) You've got use components checked.
2) The surface properties are set up to provide some reflection (not stuck no default blue).
3) The shelf is realistic - you aren't just bounding light up to a ceiling that's never going to reflect on to the rest of the room.

Thanks a lot for the reply

I tried the simulations by making the light shelves as a shade in model IIt as well as a component. But it does not seem to work in both the cases.

About the surface reflectance, I had selected metal(silver) which has high reflectance. And I did tick the use component option.

But I am not very sure whether the shelf is realistic or not?? How do we make sure that the ceiling is reflecting the light in the room.

I changed the ambient bounces and other options in the image quality to accurate. But even that does not make any difference.

Kindly advise.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks and Regards
