Hi,
Can you make sure that you have the SketchUp file saved on your local machine. Also ensure the path isn't too long and doesn't have any strange characters in it. As a test try saving the skp file in a folder on the C: Drive e.g. C:\Test and make sure the project name isn't too long.
Do you get still get the error?

Hi,
Sorry I haven't got back to you on this before.
Just to confirm have understood this problem - it all works fine when you run the plug-in and VE-Ware on a simple 2 room model but when you try to run it on a more complex model you get this error? This suggests it is project specific rather than any installation problems.
The only time I have heard of this error was a problem in our Revit plug-in a few years back when there were certain characters in the project path (e.g. () or +). Make sure there are no unexpected characters in the more complex project - check where project is saved, room names etc.
It could be that the larger model is too complex for the plug-in to handle at the moment, try reducing it's size by taking out details, make sure all spaces are bounded by thin walls (single surfaces rather than thick walls modelling), ensure you don't have too many co-linear vertices and superfluous lines, you should really try to take out all extra details at the moment as this will slow down all functions of the plug-in (especially room identification).
You might want to split the building into different floors and run the plug-in on each floor to identify if it is specific floors that are causing the problems.
These are all general ideas that you can work through when specific models are causing problems like this.

Re: Cannot load from xml string
Hello
Has there been any resolution to this issue? I am having exactly the same problem. This is with one of the sample files form IES that can be found on the Google Earth/SketchUp site. All I've done to it is a bit of minor cleaning up: deleting the people, vegetation, creating a few 'groups' that are then set to 'excluded'
The file name is very simple (office-cleaned up .... then changed to officecleaned up)
SketchUp 7.1 Pro
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Dell PC (fairly powerful, 3Ghz, 8Gb RAM, ect, ....)
SketchUp plug in - latest version
VE-Ware 6.1
I only recently downloaded the file (the 'office' one by IES)
A few months ago I had downloaded it and most of the time if was fine, but there were still issues. I have actually had issues with all 4 of the sample files (and the SketchUp plug in)

Re: Cannot load from xml string
Hello
I've had a reply from Tech Support which seems to have resolved the issue
'The error you have encountered is one that I have only heard of once before and I believe it was caused by strange characters used in the project (either in the SketchUp file name, the path where it is stored or perhaps in the rooms names assigned in the model). By strange characters I mean for example $,./& etc'
In my case I had a room called 'Server & Storage room' which when changed to 'Server and Storage' seems to have cleared the problem.
I guess that's OK, but if there is an issue which means certain characters must not be used, then could we not have it so that it is indeed not possible to use those characters for room names. So if you give a room a name (using an inappropriate character) then you shouldn't be able to save this room name, a Dialogue Box should pop up saying 'room name uses non valid characters .... you must avoid using '$, &, %, .......'
