Hello all SketchUp-ers!
SketchUP 8
VE - IES 6.2.0.1
Objective:
I am creating the model in SketchUP 8. I want to create a number of identical windows with the least amount of work. What I think I should do is draw a "raw" window and then make a "window component". The next step is to copy the "component" and make a "window group". Ideally the "window group" should be copied to other parts of the building.
Problem:
The windows can be made and seen in Google Sketchup with the component / group function. However, as soon as the model is exported to VE - IES there are no windows to be seen in the model! I have found that as soon as I make a window a "component" , it will not appear in file exported to VE - IES.
Possible Solutions??
Has someone before had this problem? Can someone verify this error import error into VE?
One time consuming solution is to individually draw in all the windows (no components or groups). I have verified that when the file is exported to VE - IES then all the windows appear.
thks!

Re: VE Import Error - Window Component / Group
Hi,
The IESVE plug-in select Components tool allows you to define a component as window. Try set that then identify rooms again and you should see your glazing recognised (the surfaces with a texture applied with opacity between 0 and 100%).

Re: VE Import Error - Window Component / Group
Hello Phil,
Yes, I have all ready made the windows into components (with the opacity between 0 and 100%), rebuilt the model, identified the rooms and tried importing this into VE. Unfortunately VE did not recognize the windows / glazed areas.
Would Vista be causing a problem?
As for a solution, I just ended up drawing in individually all the windows.
thks,
Ian

Re: VE Import Error - Window Component / Group
Vista shouldn't be affecting anything, the IESVE SketchUp plug-in runs on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and as far as I know there are no OS related issues.
Did you define the components as Windows in the IESVE Select Components dialog (accessed via button on the plug-in toolbar)?
I might ask you to send the model over as it should have worked when drawn like this. Anyway it sounds like you got the windows through for now so you can at least continue with the project.
