Big Shading Device

Post by bashar »

Hello guys,

I have a large shading panel above my building. I want to include that in the Apache simulations. I have modeled it using ModelIT but so far it doesnt seem to be making any difference in the cooling load for the building, knowing that the building is located in Dubai, UAE. I have put the shading panel type as "Local Shade". I hope any of you can help. Thanks.

Depending on how its constructed, it may not reduce the peak cooling load but it may only reduce the overall cooling energy. I.e. fins will not necessarily reduce the peak load as at that particular time when the sun is directly over the window, all the suns energy gets through. But when say the sun is at some angle to the window and the fin offers shading it reduces the energy getting through. The peak on the graph becomes narrower and the area under the graph becomes less.

Thank you for that, bootsam. I think the problem is that IES does not recognize that large shading panel as a shading device, perhaps because it is 2 meters above the building. When I run the Apache simulation, I get the same results, whether there is a shading panel or not, and this can't be right.

Thanks ParkLife, it wasn't a silly question. Its now checked, and I'm running a simulation.

The simulation just finished, checking Suncast didn't make any difference. It still doesn't seem to recognize the shading panel.

Thanks guys, I think I have figured it out. Seems like I wasnt understanding the Suncast. But now I do. I appreciate your help, cheers =)
