Shading device resistance calculation method

Post by cdumontier »

Hi,

Is there a document explaining how shading devices resistance is incorporated in the calculation of energy demand. I'm using external shutters. What's there position in relation to the glass? Is there any space in between, and is that space sealed? Are thermal losses by radiation taken into account? ...
Can someone help me find detailed explanation? Thanks.

Dear Cedric,
I think Construction Database Manager User guide will help you.

The 'Construction Layer' frame on 'Project Construction (glazed)' dialogue will help you to answer your question.

Thanks & Regards ,

I've already gone through this document, and it doesn't tell very much. I looked at it one more time, and one more question arose, along with the other ones. When a daytime resistance is entered, but the profile says the shading device is open, I suppose no insulation value is added to the glazing construction at that time, right?
I've also gone through the document entitled Calculation method, but neither does it help me find answers.

Hi,
I want to ask once more. Is there a document that precisely explain the calculation methods? I want to know for example how shading devices resistance are calculated. Is it considered in between the glass panes or outside or inside. Is there space between the shading device and the glass? Is it sealed? What about thermal losses by radiation? (Aluminum foil on the inside surface of the shading device can reflect the radiation back in).
I want to use IES VE for a research, and I have to understand how such movable insulation (shading device resistance) is calculated.
I hope someone can help me. The user guides don't go in details enough.
Thank you.

Hey

I think for research you might want to use IDA Ice instead, since you can go into all components in that program and see how it is calculated. I know some of the research institutes in Denmark use this program, while the major cooperations that "only" need to calculate how the building perform use IESVE.
