changing air speed - pl help!

Post by Rohini »

Is there a way to change air speed within a room (to simulate the effect of a ceiling fan)?
The only air speed I can find is the one in 'comfort settings' but that of course does not work for this.
Please could someone help!

Dear Rohini,
May be you need to use 'MicroFlo' module for this. (Not sure).

I will ask our expert to answer this question.
Thanks & Regards ,

Rohini,

It depends what you mean by "the effect of a ceiling fan".

The CFD module, Microflo, is the only way to analyse the effect a ceiling fan has on the air flow and temperature distribution within a zone or room on your model.

But you may not be interested in resolving the airflow and temperature fields, instead you may be only interested in the thermal/energy performance of your building and are willing to accept the fully mixed air assumption made in the thermal model ApacheSim. Then a ceiling fan really only has an effect on the thermal comfort within a room and the air speed setting in the comfort settings is the best way to analyse the change in thermal comfort due to the ceiling fan. OK these is an electricity use so you may have to take that into account in your thermal model set up. I'm not the best person to tell you how to do that as I only work on CFD projects. Best ask in the ApacheSim forum if you are interested in that.

I need more details on what you are trying to achieve to help further.
