Free Cooling Chiller

Post by bootsam »

I have a chiller with a free cooling coil and would like to incorporate the free cooling aspect but i cant seem to suss out where and how. Anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks.

Hello,

I would like to know this too and also i would like to get the amount of free cooling that i can get over a year. I would like to see some explination how to use chillers with free cooling some simple schematics would help. I would like to see a graphic of free cooling.

thank you.

How you model free cooling depends on whether your chiller is water or air cooled.

If you are modelling a water cooled chiller, a water side economizer can be linked to the chiller to provide free cooling when the outside conditions suit.

If you are modelling an air cooled chiller this free cooling is best set up on the air side of the system. I would model two cooling coils in series with dependent controllers with sensors on the OA intake which control the on/off operation of both coils depending on the outside air conditions. The free cooling coil should be assigned a separate fuel type (Misc Z, for example) so that the energy associated with the free cooling can be viewed in VistaPro.

If you assign Misc Z to the dummy chiller associated with the free cooling, you can select the variable in VistaPro & range test the number of hours the load on the coil is greater than 0 (or use the analysis tools in the XY plot). This will tell you the number of hours in which free cooling is achieved.

We modeled Free Cooling in water cooled chiller system with economizer.
But in VitaPro we saw: chiller and economizer working together (simultaneous).

Is there possibility to model scenario when working chiller OR economizer?
