Air through ground

Post by KasperS »

Hello

Im not sure if the previous post about Ground source loop is the exact same as im trying to do.

I want to get the air into the room through some pipes in the ground to cool the air during the summer and heat it during the winter. If i have calculated it as 0.5*the outside temperature + 6 degrees, can i then type this into an absolute profile saying "0.5*to+6" and then in Building Template Managere in air exchanges put it as adjacent conditions?

Got this answer through support in case others have the same question:

Thank you for your email enquiry.

This is certainly one means that will provide a fairly simple representation of the system. It is also possible to physically model the ground tubes and use ApacheHVAC to move air via the ducts and supply to the building.

Using the mechanism you described you can create a formula profile just as you described. Make sure this is set to be an absolute profile and not a modulating profile. You will also need to create a weekly profile that references this daily profile. When you set up your air exchange you can set your adjacent condition to Temperature from profile and select the formula profile created.

By default the calculation will treat this as though you are trying to heat or cool outside air to this condition and result in Aux Vent loads in the vista results. On your systems tab however you can set the Aux Vent system to “none” and there will be no loads calculated for the Aux vent system but the space will still receive tempered air.

I hope this has been of some help.

Hi. I am a graduate student at RIT Dubai and have to model earth tubes. Could you help me out with how i can physically model the ground tubes? I am very new to IES. Have modeled a rectangular room and used the prototype DX HVAC system. I need to study the impact of earth tubes in Dubai and request your help in understanding the procedure for such an analysis.

Thanks in advance.
