I'm modelling a little house of just one stair.
I first modeled an extruded shape on the internal line of the external perimeter walls without checking "create inner volume", then I put on partitions, creating 4 zone (my rooms), adding doors and windows.
So, my partitions are just one line now. How can I check where the construcion will go (left or right of my single line)?
Is this a good practice to draw my model, or it is better to model separately all the rooms?
thanks, bye,
PN
Check direction of construction walls
Re: Check direction of construction walls
Hi,
When calculating the inner volume (if in use) then you would find that the inner volume is calculated based on your constructions that you have assigned form the external wall inwards and evenly either side of an internal partition.
If tracing DXF for use with inner volumes we would recommend go along outer line of external walls and follow the centrelines of the internal walls.
If you are not using inner volumes then the floor area will simply be calculated from the boundaries you have drawn

Re: Check direction of construction walls
Thank you,
What is the main difference between using or not using "inner volume"? It's only about geometry of the model (shading calculation and model visualization)? If I don't use "inner volume", Apache will calculate my walls as if they are external to my boundary or if thikness is not considered at all?
Many thanks to your replies, I've looking in the help guide but I didn't understand exactly the differences.
Bye,
Pier Nick

Re: Check direction of construction walls
Thermally Apache will still be aware of the walls having a thickness and all thermal properties defined by the Construction you assign so really you are just looking at the use of inner volumes to represent an accurate floor area and volume - depending on how you have modelled it this is up to you.
I believe that in most cases in IES projects are done without using inner volumes as it keeps the model simpler and inaccuracies can be negligible.
