DESIGN WEATHER DATA

Post by abbasmuazu77 »

How do I obtain weather data files for cities no listed.
I am specifically looking for data on Nigerian cities. Although a handful of them
are listed on the location and site data sections, there is virtually nothing on the
design/simulation weather files.

Hello,

There are some African (not Nigerian unfortunately) here:

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency can be contacted through Facebook:

... & they have a website here:

Perhaps you could contact them and ask them to supply you data in EPW format? If you do post them on this forum so others can make use of them too?

There's always the option of Meteonorm too - they sell data per site and have a product that lets you generate your own files (thanks to the support lads @IES for telling me about that one).

I dont know how easily it is to obtain data from Nigeria, but be carefull to look at the data. DTU (Technical University of Denmark) makes reference year data for the weather in Denmark, and i tried to compare it to the data given by IESVE. The temperature difference over the year is (if i remember correct) almost 1.2 degree celcius higher for the IESVE Data.

Very many thanks guys!
That was brilliant and very helpful.

I have made contact with NIMET and have received the relevant weather
data in excel and expecting the epw format soon. Ofcourse I will be happy
to share that on the forum.

Meanwhile I have visited the recommended sites to obtain weather data for Ghana.
I have saved the file in the IES weather file directory (programfiles/IES/sharedcontent/weather)
The file attaches in a funny way and doesnt appear when I scroll to select it in both the design
and simulaion weather data dialogue boxes.

Any clues?? :?

So the EPW files don't appear in the list at all when you put them in the /shared content/weather folder?
That's strange - I've never seen an EPW that didn't read into IES. You sure that it's the EPW file you've put there and not the ZIP?
Sorry if that's a basic question.
