Hi,
I have tried to run Suncast on my model but it has been giving me an error" V1.05 Shading File does not match model. Shading file upgrade required. You will need to rerun the Solar Shading Calculation."
I noticed that my model was not not close to the origin so I tried moving it but this did not help. Any ideas as to how I should proceed?
Thanks a lot.
Best Regards.
Error reading shading file
Re: Error reading shading file
Hi,
We've seen this error a few times in VE 6.4.0.7. This version of VE has an updated shading file format but should allow you to simulate using existing shading files from earlier versions of VE (as long as they are valid!).
This error seems to pop up after you have re-calculated the shading file in VE 6.4.0.7, if that is the case then I can assure you it is valid and you can proceed to simulation and use this shading file with confidence.
So in Summary:
- Model upgraded to 6.4.0.7, you should be able to simulate with the existing shading file
- If this is flagged as invalid then re-calculate the shading file and you'll be able to simulate
- if the out of date error pops up after re-calculating the shading file in 6.4.0.7 you can safely ignore it.
If you have problems running simulations with the updated shading file linked then I'd always advise to start off by checking the geometry has no errors (ModelIT menu Settings >> Model, tick Intersections, Zones and Surfaces then click Check).

Re: Error reading shading file
Thanks Phil. I'll try running the simulation as you recommended.

Re: Error reading shading file
Hi, Im having the same error message when starting Dynamic Simulation (Im using v6.3 'though):
"Error in shading file", "The following errors were found in the shading file...
Error in [surfaces] data
We recommend that you re-calculate shading using suncast."
Do you wish to continue the simulation using current shading file?"
Rerunning suncast solar shading calculations doesn't make any difference and the dynamic simulation finishes with no error. Should I ignore this error?
Cheers,
Santiago.

Re: Error reading shading file
Hi Santiago,
The problem with the Suncast error is the tolerance check between SunCast and Apache is slightly different and it sees the model as having changed (which it hasn’t).
The 6.3 release has the bypass option which lets you run anyway so if you are sure the model hasn’t changed then select Yes to bypass and you should be able to run the simulation without any issues.
Thanks,
Steven

Re: Error reading shading file
Hi, I am having this problem with a model now. Phil, if you answer this, it's with the same model I couldn't run radiance with earlier this week (I did get radiance working in the end though). It could run suncast before but now it doesn't work, when running radiance it says
"Error reading shading file
V1.05 shading file does not match model.
Shading file upgrade required.
You will need to rerun the shading calculation."
This happens before suncast can complete, I've tried running it 4 times and it's always failed. Is there something I need to do to the geometry? Radiance has worked, and apache started running. Any advise is much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Error reading shading file
Seems to have got around the problem by deleting all the holes in the model!
importing from revit is more hassle than it's worth!

Maybe not
Re: Error reading shading file
A Revit model, always sets off the alarm bells for me because unless the modelling was top notch on the Revit side (always with the gbXML export limitations in mind) then you can find issues in the geometry after importing to VE.
I'm guessing you've been through the ModelIT geometry check report, if not do it now and fix intersections, non-planar surfaces.
The shading file out of date message isn't always genuine when it appears at the end of a SunCast run. What I've seen working for me in the past is to go into the project SunCast folder and delete all the shading files beforehand, then open the project and run the shading calcs fresh and usually that seems to work.

Re: Error reading shading file
Chaps when rotating the geometry of the model I am prompted with the following error message (word4word).
"The following errors were found in shading file...
error in [Geometry]
We recommend that you re-calculate your shading using Suncast
Do you wish to continue the simulation using current shading file?"
No the problem I am having here is that no matter how many times I re-run suncast the same error message pops up.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Marc
