2015 Vista Results Dissapearing

Post by wyliecoyote »

Hi,

So im using the most recent version of 2015 to perform a range check for overheating criteria.

Any who, I ran a simulation from Oct - Mar.

When I go into check the air temperature for the month of march in the calender, it automatically skips back to the month of December.

When I go to check the month of January, the calender skips back November and so on.

I then saved a copy to my desktop and renamed the file to .mit to make the file path as easily accessible as possible.

Then looked in vista and all my results had disappeared.

I then looked in the vista folder in the file structure and there were no results there.

I guess the best thing to do is to use 2014 to prevent the risk of losing all your results.

Hi,

If you use VistaPro then this will work exactly as you want it to.

Re: losing simulation results on save as, I haven't seen this. Does this happen each time you do a save as operation on your projects?

Thanks for the reply.

I will use vista pro from now on.

Re: Its the first time ive used 2015 for a project and i only done one save as for a project and the results disappeared. I usually use 2014 .

Phil,

I wanted to chime in here. I'm losing Vista Results files every time I do a save as too.

Hi,

Thanks for chipping in, I see this now (if you save as while in Vistapro it actually looks like it keeps the link to the results file even though they aren't in the new project folder). When you exit and come back they are not there by default as they are not in the new project Vista folder although you could load results file and browse to the old copy of the project where they are retained

I shall raise this one for consideration cautiously, results files can be large and might significantly increase save as time for some projects as well as requiring more disk space to replicate etc I think there could be a case for these not being copied and perhaps even this change was made on purpose. For example a standard cab archive doesn't include your results files, to do this needs to select 'Full archive', maybe we can make this a user preference to keep everyone happy

Would be good to get some other forum users consensus here too to support or play devils advocate??

I like the idea of copying the functionality of the Archive to the Save As with the option of saving with results files. Good point on the large files and save time.

If it's too much work for the developers, it makes a lot more sense for users to copy and paste the previous vista files into the new project folder. I didn't realize that we could do this before.

Phil,

Do you have any recommendations for performing iterations on models? I like to make multiple copies of my model for changes so that I can easily come back and take a look at it later. However, I noticed that the save as function sometimes is a bit glitchy.

I was wondering if you've ever heard of certain parameters going back to default. For example I've had some a case where the building site rotation goes back to default and elevators had to be reapplied after a save as. Although, I've never been able to recreate these mishaps so they may be a user error on my part (I wouldn't doubt it).

Do you have any tips?

As Always,
Thanks
