Heat Pump Chillers

Post by cdenson »

There have been several advances in VE 2012 to expand the functionality of the heat transfer loops, but I'm uncertain if ApacheHVAC can do what I need it to do.

I have a Chilled Water loop served by Air-cooled chillers and a Hot Water Loop served by Boilers. I want to model a heat pump chiller that pre-cools the water entering the air-cooled chillers while simultaneously rejecting its condenser heat to the Hot Water loop to preheat the water entering the Boilers.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks, Clark

Clark, with VE2012 you shoud be able to model both Pre-cooling as well as Pre-heating.

For pre-cooling the options(in the pre-cooling tab) range from using ambient device for heat rejection and &/or a water source heat exchanger.

For preheating water entering boiler(s) using heat rejected from a condenser in a chilled water loop, in VE one has a heat recovery option(in the pre-heating tab) in a hotwater loop or generic heat source; where one specifies the source of heat to be recovered.

In your case, condenser water loop will be the source type and source will be the chilled water loop using the condenser.
