HVAC sizing with simple coil did not work.

Post by lutinfr »

I have modeled an appart hotel with VRF system (did not use daikin plugins), when doing autosizing in ASHRAE Load (with update Apache HVAC system turn on), coil and system power does not update, all "A" character keep black color. I use newest VE with hotfix 2. When switching to advanced coil, auto-sizing works well but I have to manually put coil value into excel, can not use copy & paste as using simple coil.

You say you modeled the VRF system, but did you do this manually, or have you editted a prototype system?

Also, there might be something wrong with the way you modeled the VRF system that is preventing the autosize.

I'm following this guide http://www.iesve.com/downloads/help/ve2 ... heHVAC.pdf and build my own network, I did not modify any prototype system.
Apendix E, page 457, VRF system, I have simulated this kind of system for years, it works until VE 2015 FP1 hotfix 2. Simple coil sizing does not work, this guide tell that this is the way to model VRF system, unfortunately.

if you havent started with a prototype system, the sizing doesn't work. Only prototype systems can be sized. The guide tells you to do so in the first step...

I think that starting with prototype system is not a cause, I make my own airside network for years and it works very well, only thing I have to do manually is entering aiflow. This problem seems to be similar to the first version of VE 2015, "Subject: 0080245: VE 2015 strange result | Chiller and water unable to interact with air". In this subject, simple coil is inactive too, HVAC sizing and whole year simulation does not work correctly. I have tried to change part-load chilled to screw chiller, result was the same, simple coil sizing did not work so I think it's kind of bug, returns from VE 2015.0.0.0.

I am pretty sure IES VE can only size prototype systems (or manually editted versions of them). If you still think it is a bug, then your best bet would be to report it to the support staff.
