Radiance not running or producing odd results

Post by HSB »

Hello,

I am using IESVE 6.4.0.10.
I have been using IES for my thesis project for my MSc. For the project a school building is going to be examined in terms of ventilation and daylight. The file is pretty complicated as you can imagine. When trying to examine daylight using Radiance, i got the following problems.
All images were attempted to be produced in low/medium default quality.
1. When trying to produce an Illuminance - working plane height image for 1 single room : It got stuck at 0% pre -sim generated or "initializing"
2. When trying to produce a Luminance image it usually got stuck in "initialising"

Half of the times the IES software shut down after crushing when I pressed the abort button to stop the simulation.
I believe the file is OK, since my co-workers can produce Radiance images.

So I tried to generate a simple model, one room, two windows, just to test the application. After several crashes of the software and only after I used the repair installation button did I manage to generate an illuminance at working plane image. But still the results were not the ones expected. (See photos below).

I don't know what to do, or where the problem exists. I just have to sort this out as soon as possible as I have a deadline for my project on September 2nd.

Any help would be appreciated.

Irene

Hi,

This doesn't look right, not sure what might cause it but have sent you an email to ask for further information that might give us some clues.

This really has nothing to do with you problem, but you should use maximum quality when you need a "pretty" accurate investigation of the daylight. From my experience, the low quality can only be used to see if the room is completely dark somewhere, but wont tell you anything good about the specific numbers, since it sometimes with low quality it calculates the spot to have a DF factor of 1 %, while it calculates the same spot to have 2 % DF with maximum quality.
