PMV & PPD - Comfort Settings

Post by RossThompson87 »

Hi,

It looks like BREEAM 2014 requires PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Percentage People Dissatisfied) figures to be reported.

These variables can obviously be found in Vista / Vista Pro.

Under comfort settings, the activity and clothing level are variables that have a big effect.

Surely these need to be set up on a room by room basis rather than globally for this feature to be much use?

For the majority of buildings these levels will be different for different room types. i.e. clothing will be different for a school classroom and sportshall.

Could these be made room level variables with access from tabular view please? Otherwise extracting results is going to be really messy.

Thanks

Ross

Hi,

Is it possible to get an update on this?

The consultation draft for the new BB101 also features PPD and PMV guidelines.

It also suggests different TM52 standards for different activities (e.g. category II for offices and category III for circulation areas)

So ideally all the variables in the comfort setting dialogue should be room level (not global).

Thanks

I would second this suggestion! it becomes tedious and messy to change the global settings each time I want to check a different zone.

Hello,

Any update on this, please?
Having this setting at room level is essential in order to extract meaningful PPD and PMV values for BREEAM. In fact, BREEAM requires to report "the observed range of values for PMV and PPD across all occupied areas across all the hours when these are expected to be occupied (enter the minimum and maximum for each i.e. PMV = 0.2 – 0.5, PPD = 10 – 15%)".

This is just impossible to do at the moment in IES for building with a conspicuous number of rooms (500-600 in my case) and many different room types.

Also, the clothing level should be different for winter and summer, so two parameters would be needed possibly.

Can we have any information on whether this will be included in the new 2018 version, please?
