Energy model walkthrough

Post by DELGADO027 »

Greetings everyone,

This is my first time using this software to perform an energy model and HVAC load. Is there somewhere that I can find a walkthrough of a sample model to get the basics on how everything works?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Delgado,

The ASHRAE 90.1 PRM Navigator tool is great, it's essentially a sequential checklist of things to do in order to get a final energy simulation report. It can be found under the navigators tab next to applications on the upper left hand panel. Although the end goal is to get an energy report against the ASHRAE baseline, it can be used for generic energy modeling as well.

You essentially start with "workflow concept" and down to "results". As you go through the list, some items require you to check the box to move on to the next step. If you come across something that you don't necessarily need, you can always check the box to continue onto the next item. If some items are confusing, there is a help button (the question mark) which can provide some guidance. Additionally there is a note pad if you'd like to note anything throughout the process.

Hope this helps!

In addition to what NebK suggested, there is also numerous guides on IES website that can give you a general understanding of the different modules in VE. I would recommend you read through them as well.
