ApacheCalc doesn't recognize SunCast file

Post by david373348 »

Hi all,

The Apache thermal calculation doesn't recognize my suncast shading file even if SunCast recognize the file when I load the shading results,

But when I try to made a simulation in apache apache send the message, "SunCast calculations have not been performed", my building is too complex to do SunCast again so someone can give me more advice on this?

Thanks
David Garcia.

There will definitely be a geometry issue that's causing it.

The Shading file holds a definition of each surface in the model (so it can identify whether or not sun light is hitting it at each time-step) so if your geometry is, for want of a better word, "poor" or rather has problems contained within it then there can be a mismatch. The only solution is to make the geometry of the project more robust and rerun suncast. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I personally feel that this is a symptom of people wrongly thinking that they can save time by modelling quickly - false economy - measure twice and cut once is a wise enough old saying. I don't mean this as a personal criticism in this case at all - just an observation from seeing a few models in my time using IES. My own included occasionally.

in addition you can easily check model geometry quality in ModelIT via Settings menu >> Model.... then tick Intersections, Zones and Surfaces and click Check to see a report showing all issues.

After that it's up to you how you correct them but I often find that simply redrawing spaces is the fastest solution

Hi all,

i have encountered the exact same problem.

I checked my model geometry as PCully suggested, and the geometry was fine. There are no non-planar surfaces, intersections or unmatched adjacencies.

Any other ideas?
