1st Pass at PRM - Questions!

Post by enerGwizz »

So I built a model and went through the PRM Navigator workflow (for the first time), successfully simulated the five models, and have some unresolved issues related to the outputs in the LEED report:

1. I do have a few spaces that are mechanical/electrical rooms that are completely unconditioned. I have not assigned them to any systems in ApHVAC, and set the heating and cooling systems to "None" in ApacheSystems. I believe this is inline wth the user guides, but my LEED report is showing all of the space as being conditioned, and no unconditioned space. Is there somewhere else I can define these spaces as unconditioned, or do all spaces show up as conditioned in the reports?

2. I have a slight excess of unmet load hours - primarily in cooling modes. I'm curious how IES is determining these hours and the best way to troubleshoot which zones are the issue and when the issue occurs. In other words, is it counting an unmet hour as each hour a space dry-bulb temp is outside the heating/cooling setpoint schedule by more than 2 degrees F (as I specified; also default)? If so, can I safely assume that the unconditioned spaces I mentioned in #1 are NOT being counted?

3. I am not getting an energy in baseline or proposed models in the service water heating category. I am pretty sure this can't be calculated in ApHVAC, and must be defined in Apache Systems. In the templates for all space types, I set the water heating system as "ASHRAE DHW Baseline Prototype System" and made sure the efficiencies were defined correctly at that system. This is per user guide direction. How do I get my SHW energy to show up??

That's it for now. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Hi,

Not 100% sure but this might help.

1. I think you have to assign these to an inactive space/void type when doing the Room/Zone Group Assignment for the report to correctly pick them up.

2. The Knowledge Base has a really useful article on this that one of our Support consultants put together based on the various common questions we were getting

http://www.iesve.com/support/knowledgebase/faq/2915

3. Only thing I can think of here if you have correctly set up both the ApacheHVAC and Apache systems sides would be to ensure the correct fuel code (if relevant here) is assigned so the end use is correctly picked up in the reports.
