Solar shading Claculation

Post by kumudini1 »

Hi,

Im running a suncast simulation for a quiet huge building ( 4 building on the same site with 16 storey )that I constructed on ModelIT itself. But it is taking really long to run the simulation for suncast and for solar shading. I let it run overnight. But it will end up in not responding state and didnt continue any further.
Therefore I just chose only one storey of the building and just one month with 15 as a design day. But still it is at the not responding state. Since my study required the effect of diffuse solar radiation I have to complete it before I go on to the Apache simulations.

What could be the reason for this issue. And how could I solve it.

And if I don't conduct solar shading calculation would the Apache consider the global solar radiation as direct solar radiation?

Please advice.

Your help much appreciated.

If it's a large model then maybe just leaving it longer than the day will help, "Not responding" doesn't always meant he calc has stopped/failed.

Having said that if the model is large then solid robust geometry is even more important, run a quick ModelIT geometry check (ModelIT Settings menu >> model... then tick on intersections, zones and surfaces and click the Check button). You should look to correct any intersections, non-planar surfaces and unmatched adjacencies before you run anyanalyses

Thanks Phil,
I let it run for about 2 days. It worked. Thank you! :)

It can take a while

The dev team are looking into some different options to speed up parts of the VE that take the longest and SunCast is top of the list so hoping to see these shading calc times reduced this year
